Success at Swim BC Winter Provincial Championships

VICTORIA, BC - The West Vancouver Otters Swim Club made waves at the Swim BC Winter Provincial Championships, showcasing remarkable talent and dedication from our swimmers. As coaches, we are immensely proud of our team's achievements and the hard work they put in leading up to this prestigious event.

With a total of 75 personal best times achieved, our swimmers demonstrated exceptional improvement and commitment to their craft. Among these achievements, the girls secured 42 best times, while the boys obtained 35 best times, reflecting the balanced excellence of our program.

One of the standout performances came from Michelle Zeng, whose outstanding display earned her an impressive five new Canadian Trials qualifying times. Zeng showcased her versatility and skill across multiple disciplines, qualifying in the 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 100 Breast, 200 IM, and 400 Free events.

In addition to Zeng's stellar performances, several individual swimmers reached the finals in their respective categories. Isavella Barbosa demonstrated her strength with an 8th place finish in the Girls 15-17 400 Free, while Natascha Borromeo showcased her prowess with a 2nd place finish in the 100 Back, a 1st place finish in the 50 Back, and a 4th place finish in the 200 Back for the Girls 15-17 category.

Gemma Durand displayed her talent with an 8th place finish in the 50 Free, a 7th place finish in the 100 Back, and a 5th place finish in the 50 Back for the Girls 15-17 category. Ella Kim impressed with a 7th place finish in the 200 Breast, a 5th place finish in the 100 Breast, and a 5th place finish in the 50 Breast for the Girls 11-12 category. Weiss Wu showcased his determination with an 8th place finish in the 200 Back for the Boys 13-14 category.

Furthermore, Michelle Zeng continued her stellar performance in the finals, securing impressive rankings across multiple events in the Girls 13-14 category, including 4th in the 100 Fly, 2nd in the 200 Breast (setting a new club record), 5th in the 50 Breast (another club record!), 2nd in the 400 IM, 2nd in the 200 Free, 2nd in the 200 Fly, 4th in the 100 Breast, 3rd in the 200 IM, 5th in the 50 Breast, and 2nd in the 400 Free.

The relay teams also demonstrated their strength, with the Girls 15-17 200 Medley Relay securing a 2nd place finish, consisting of Natascha Borromeo, Michelle Zeng, Isavella Barbosa, and Gemma Durand. The same team members also showcased their teamwork with a 7th place finish in the Girls 400 Free Relay and a 4th place finish in the Girls 200 Free Relay.

Looking ahead, our swimmers are gearing up for the Western Canadian Championships, where Natascha Borromeo, Michelle Zeng, and Gemma Durand will continue to represent the West Vancouver Otters Swim Club with determination and skill.

As coaches, we are incredibly proud of the dedication and talent displayed by our swimmers at the Swim BC Winter Provincial Championships. Their hard work, determination, and sportsmanship continue to inspire us, and we look forward to supporting them as they strive for further success in the pool.
